About
  • POWERFUL. PRACTICAL. PERSONABLE are just some of the words that describe Frank Shelton, Jr. Literally, Frank has been speaking to audiences as long as he can remember. In fifth grade, he spoke to 500 peers, parents and principal at his graduation as the keynote speaker at Malcolm Elementary in Waldorf, MD. For a ten year old kid that was a pretty daunting task. When most would have sat down he said a silent prayer and stood up. That day - it just seemed right. Three years later, he was elected President of the Student Government at John Hanson Middle School and addressed 900 students and faculty on a daily basis giving the morning announcements to entire student body and ocassional speeches. Once again, he was selected to give the graduation address but this time in junior high and at 13, spoke to over 1,100 peers and parents.  In high school, he was selected “PROM KING” his senior year out of 1,300 students at a public school and received a standing ovation at graduation.  Upon graduation he went off to college and was selected to speak as a senior at Gardner Webb University in North Carolina at a student organized event. One faculty member said “In my eight years at the school the day Frank spoke was the largest attended he had ever seen.” In 1999, Shelton was named a “Distinguished Alumni” from the University.

Consisetency is both integrity and maturity. Frank believed early on that one could reach the top without bottoming out. After college graduation he worked 17 years on Capitol Hill in various Congressional capacities before stepping out and chasing his calling to touch the world with his God given gift. On April 12, 1995, Frank was appointed by U.S. Senate Sergeant at Arms, Howard Greene (R) at age 23, to be a bi-partisan figure to interact daily as floor staff of the United States Senate. This front row seat to Democracy enabled him to listen and glean from some of the greatest orators of our time. He was the youngest in modern memory to hold this position. Plus, it allowed him to communicate and connect with some of the world’s most influential people and interacted with all 100 United States Senators. During his tenure on Capitol Hill, Frank worked for two Democrats and two Republicans and from 1996-2000, he was a speechwriter to a Member of Congress in the House Leadership. When asked how he at such a young age could draft a speech for a national leader Shelton replied with a smile: “I would say a prayer and daydream as if I had to give the speech.” Its been said: “If you can SEE it you can achieve it.” Ironically, Frank began to be frequently tapped to give remarks in the Congressman’s absence at various events, ground-breakings, retirements, award ceremonies and the list almost endless. One time he drafted a graduation speech for his boss and at the last second he couldn’t attend due to un-expected floor votes at the U.S. Capitol. He handed the speech to Shelton and said: “Frank you wrote it – go give it!” That he did and the next two years the school asked the Congressman’s Office to send him the surrogate instead. Another evening, Frank wrote the remarks for a Nobel Peace Prize receipient that the Congressman was scheduled to deliver at a black tie dinner. An hour before the event Frank was designated to show up and deliver the remarks to a packed crowd while sitting on the dais with United States Senators and other dignitaries. He was the only one not wearing a tux that night but according to those in the crowd and local media he “nailed it” pertaining to the speech. Frank has also been called on to write remarks delivered by the Assistant Secretary of Navy and other leaders in various careers.

From the humble beginnings of speaking in elementary school to offering encouragement, counsel and words of wisdom to U.S. Presidents, Members of Congress, Governors, elected officials, CEOs, Grammy Winning artists, world class athletes and common folk – Frank realizes “to whom much is given much is required.” To date, he has been invited to speak in 28 states and 12 countries. Leadership came easy and early for him and knew at a young age that he had a rich heritage and wanted to make a mark and leave a legacy. His father retired as Deputy Chief of the United States Capitol Police in Washington, DC. His maternal great grandfather hand planted the Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin that tourists come from around the globe to enjoy and his paternal great great great grandfather, Joseph William Shelton was on duty Good Friday 1865, at Ford’s Theater the very night President Abraham Lincoln was assasinated. It was noted in DC papers that his ancestor assisted in carrying the Commander in Chief across the street the evening he died. Ironically, Frank was born on President’s Day Weekend 1972 and his son, Andrew Lincoln Shelton was born on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2009.  Living up to history can be heavy but missing your destiny can be deadly.

Presently, Frank speaks upward of 200 dates per year at various events. His radio show “FRANKLY SPEAKING” aired the last two years on American Family Radio and has shared his story of Hope, Humor & Heaven on Earth to world-wide audiences on national television. He is aFOX NEWS contributor and travels to New York City almost monthly to weigh in LIVE on current affairs as a political/religion contributor. Shelton was recently tapped International Evangelism Director for the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England with nine time gold medalist,Carl Lewis.  Recently, Basketball Hall of Famer and legendary Meadowlark Lemon asked Frank to write the foreword to his new book “TRUST YOUR NEXT SHOT” along with Michael Jordan and Bill Cosby. Frank’s personal best seller “CAREER VS CALLING” is available on Amazon.com and still not even 40, Frank continues to educate, encourage and empower folks all across America and around the globe. Frank is a modern day Forest Gump and his interactions with all walks of life make for an unforgettable moment to say the least. He met Sylvester Stallone at age 13 in Los Angeles, CA and was invited to be an “extra” in ROCKY BALBOA in Las Vegas and passion and perseverance could be his middle name. Frank is entertaining and his “spot on” celebrity impressions, knee slapping humor till it hurts and ability to expound on truths in a relevant way make him one of America’s most inspiring communicators.

Frank has been blessed but also broken and his experiences enable him more than communicate but connect. Frank has spoken at Fortune 500 companies, civic groups, conferences, cruises, churches, colleges and countless school assemblies nation-wide. He is a dynamic speaker with a true gift at painting a picture with words and some suggest one of the best story-tellers around. Some of his topics include: Art of Bouncing Back, Attitude is better than Aptitude, Customer Service, Integrity in the work-place, Loyalty, Chasing your Dreams, Perseverance, etc are all packed with energy and enthuisiasm! Frank has a passion for people, perseverance and patriotism.  Frank has spoken twice at Six Flags America for Faith Day and honored to serve on Advisory Board of “America’s Heroes of Freedom” raising funds and awareness for wounded troops and Praisefest Ministries – “Cruise with a Cause” the world’s largest missions outreach. He has co-authored seven books and his newest “THE BLESSEDNESS OF BROKENESS” is scheduled to be released February 2012. Pastor Matthew Barnett of L.A. Dream Center & Zoro, the drummer to Lenny Kravitz graciously wrote the foreword. It is true: “Adversity causes some to break and others break records.” You may be down, defeated, discouraged, depressed, divorced, have debt but if you are not dead than you are notdone!” Frank has boarded “Air Force One” and flown on “Air Force Two” but today gladly flies Southwest Airlines to make a difference. He is more than a speaker but a servant. He is married to his best friend, Ruth and they have two amazing children - Hannah Grace (11) andAndrew Lincoln (2) and  reside just outside of the Nation’s Capitol in Waldorf, MD.
